A recap of the 2025 PSWA Golf Outing from Ron Jaworski’s RiverWinds Golf & Tennis Club

September 18, 2025|

The Philadelphia Sports Writers Association held its annual golf outing fundraiser at Ron Jaworski’s RiverWinds Golf & Tennis Club in West Deptford, NJ, on Monday, September 15, with 64 golfers in attendance. The event (which included registration fees, mulligan purchases, a 50/50 and silent auction) raised funds for the PSWA Foundation, a 501(c)(3) non-profit. Those proceeds will got toward both the foundation’s scholarship program as well as a donation to the Adam Taliaferro Foundation.

The foursome (pictured below, L-R) of Bret VanderWoude, Chris Volk, Chas Bogardus and Tom Martino, emerged from the day as the 2025 champions, shooting a 14-under-par 58, playing in the scramble format on a beautiful but breezy late summer day. They won on a match of cards after tying with the foursome of Mike Kern, Rodger Gottlieb, Phil Sokol and Bob Hanna.

There was a long drive contest which was held on the par-5, 450-yard 10th hole. The winner was Ed Lohr pictured in action below. His drive of 275 yards held up throughout the day.

The super-challenging 133-yard, par-3, 17th hole was the site of the closest to the pin competition which was won by Chas Bogardus who amazingly landed his shot just 22 inches from the hole despite some howling winds blowing across the green that sits below the elevated tee. Here’s a couple of looks at No. 17.

Along with a great round of golf, the day included a lunch at the food truck on the course, a gift donated by the Philadelphia Phillies for each registred golfer and a post-round catered meal. Each foursome also received a prize, donated from various individuals and organizations, for participating and the contest winners also earned prizes.
While golfers enjoyed dinner, former Penn State and NFL defensive back Grant Haley (pictured below) spoke about the work of the Adam Taliaferro Foundation of which he is a new board member, his playing career both in college and the NFL which included stops with the New York Giants, New Orleans Saints and the Super Bowl LVI champion Los Angeles Rams. He also emphasized the importance of giving back.

Thanks to those who played and aided some worthy causes!  Here’s a few more photos from the day!
