What is the Philadelphia Sports Writers Association?
The Philadelphia Sports Writers Association was founded in 1904. It is here to preserve and promote the proud history of Philadelphia sports and as well as the athletes, coaches, teams and philanthropists that have meant so much to Philadelphia and beyond. We also promote and rally for fairness in the workplace in newsrooms across the region and country. The organization raises funds to provide scholarships for worthy college students who are studying sports communications, journalism, public relations, management or pursuing other careers in sports. Every year, typically a week or two ahead of the Super Bowl, we host an awards banquet honoring those deserving of recognition for their great feats of athleticism, coaching, philanthropy, sports journalism and sports broadcasting. The capstone award of each and every PSWA banquet is the awarding of the organization’s Most Courageous Sportsperson of the Year. See this link for a history of our award winners.
