The Philadelphia Sports Writers Association annually awards scholarships to college students. To apply, download the attached pdf file, complete the application and submit by the designated deadline. For 2025, the deadline has passed. Visit our site next year, typically around Halloween, for the 2026 application.
Typically the PSWA awards three scholarships of $1,000 to current college sophomore and junior students who are studying communications with the intent on becoming a journalist, broadcaster, podcaster, reporter, public/media relations practitioner and/or other related careers. One winner, who stands out from the rest, will be named the Jack Scheuer Scholarship recipient in honor of the legendary Associated Press reporter and longtime PSWA member. The other two awards are simply known as PSWA Scholarships.
Students who apply should either be attending a college in the Philadelphia metro region or be a native of the Philadelphia metro region and attending a college that is not located in the area.
