Louisville baseball star and West Chester native Tague Davis is named PSWA’s Amateur Athlete of the Year
PHILADELPHIA, Pa. — The Philadelphia Sports Writers Association (PSWA) is proud to announce that Tague Davis has been selected as the organization’s Amateur Athlete of the Year.
Davis will be honored at the 122nd Annual PSWA Awards Banquet, which will be held on Monday, January 11, 2027, at The Palestra on the campus of theUniversity of Pennsylvania.

The PSWA Amateur Athlete of the Year Award recognizes an outstanding amateur athlete whose accomplishments, dedication and performance have distinguished them among the finest competitors in the country.

Davis, a first baseman, has already had a record-setting career at the University of Louisville. The Malvern Prep star from West Chester, PA, had a historic sophomore season in 2026, setting program and ACC records with 34 home runs and 98 RBIs. He led all of Division I in homers, total bases and RBIs last season, was named a unanimous first-team All-American and the ACC’s 2026 Player of the Year. In 2025, he set the Cardinals freshman record with 18 home runs.

Through two campaigns at Louisville, Davis has hit .320 with 52 home runs and 150 RBIs, making him one of the most feared left-handed power hitters in college baseball. Son of former major leaguer and current Philadelphia Phillies broadcaster Ben Davis, he is projected to be a first-round draft pick in 2027.
“Tague Davis’s accomplishments in just two seasons of college baseball are remarkable,” said PSWA President, Mike Shute. “To lead all of NCAA Division 1 in home runs and RBIs as a sophomore and set school and conference records is mind-boggling. Plus, with him being a Philadelphia-area native, we are extra proud to recognize him as our PSWA Amateur Athlete of the Year.”
Past winners of the PSWA’s Amateur Athlete of the Year Award include: Caitlin Clark, Jalen Brunson, Matt Ryan, Dawn Staley, Carl Lewis and Mark Spitz.
The 2027 PSWA Awards Banquet will hold special significance as part of the celebration of the 100th anniversary of The Palestra, one of the most historic venues in college basketball.
The evening will bring together members of the Philadelphia sports community to celebrate outstanding athletes, coaches, administrators and members of the media while recognizing the achievements and contributions that continue to make the region one of the nation’s premier sports communities.
