Jason Myrtetus Named PSWA Most Courageous Award Recipient
Sports broadcast professional recognized for battling, creating awareness of colon cancer
PHILADELPHIA, Pa. — The Philadelphia Sports Writers Association (PSWA) is proud to announce that Philadelphia Flyers broadcaster Jason Myrtetus will receive the organization’s Most Courageous Award.
He will be honored at the 122nd Annual PSWA Awards Banquet, which will be held on Monday, January 11, 2027, at The Palestra on the campus of the University of Pennsylvania.
Myrtetus, a longtime member of the Flyers broadcast team and one of Philadelphia’s most recognizable hockey voices, is being honored for the courage, determination and openness he has displayed during his battle with colon cancer.
The PSWA’s Most Courageous Award recognizes individuals whose perseverance, strength and character in the face of adversity serve as an inspiration to others.
A veteran of the Philadelphia sports media landscape, Myrtetus has been part of the Flyers broadcast crew since 2008. He serves as a host for the team’s pregame, intermission and postgame radio coverage and is the host of the popular Flyers Daily podcast. His broadcasting career has also included stops at WIP, WYSP and 97.5 The Fanatic.
When confronted with his diagnosis, Myrtetus chose not to step away from the public eye. Instead, he has openly shared his journey, using his platform to discuss the challenges of cancer treatment and the importance of recognizing potential warning signs. His honesty and willingness to share his experience have provided inspiration and encouragement to countless listeners, fans and members of the Philadelphia sports community.
Throughout his battle, Myrtetus has continued to demonstrate the same passion and commitment that have defined his career. His ability to persevere while remaining connected to the game and the audience he has served for decades embodies the spirit of the PSWA Most Courageous Award.

The Philadelphia Sports Writers Association is proud to recognize Jason as our Most Courageous Award recipient.”
The 2027 PSWA Awards Banquet will hold special significance as part of the celebration of the100th anniversary of The Palestra, one of the most historic venues in college basketball.
The evening will bring together members of the Philadelphia sports community to celebrate outstanding athletes, coaches, administrators and members of the media while recognizing the achievements and contributions that continue to make the region one of the nation’s premier sports communities.
