Recap of the 2026 PSWA Golf Outing at Valleybrook
The foursome of Bill Mongan, Gary Shultz, Pat Hall and Jack Cloherty captured the victory at the 2026 Philadelphia Sports Writers Association Golf Tournament at Ron Jaworksi’s Valleybrook Country Club in the Blackwood section of Gloucester Township, NJ, on Monday Aug. 24.
The winning team carded a 13-under-par 59 in the scramble format. Seventy-two golfers accounted for 18 teams on the course on a perfect summer day.
Just for participating, each golfer earned a Cristopher Sanchez bobblehead doll donated by the Philadelphia Phillies. And every member of every team received a prize based on their finishing position, ranging from autographed sports memorabilia, and a foursome at Valleybrook, to golf apparel, hats, Philly team gear and a wide variety of sports books.
Nick Sweeney (three feet, four inches, hole 5) and Greg Ring (eight feet, six inches on hole 12) won the two closest-to-the-pin contests on the course, while Tom Sullivan was the winner of the longest drive contest on hole No. 10.
The tournament benefitted the PSWA Foundation, which provides annual college scholarships fund, and also The Adam Taliaferro Foundation.
After golf, the participants enjoyed an excellent buffet dinner while a pack of four tickets to a 2026-27 Philadelphia 76ers game and a pair of tickets in the Cadillac Hall of Fame Club at Citizens Bank Park for an upcoming Phillies game were each raffled off. Documentary film director Joe Amodei gave an interesting talk about his recently released movie, Cold War In Philly, a film about the 1976 exhibition hockey game between the Philadelphia Flyers and the vaunted Russian National Team played at the Spectrum.
The 2026 PSWA golf outing and related raffles and silent auction raised over $4,000. The organization would like to thanks all those who participated and the staff at Valleybrook for a great day!
